Great place if you want a base for a couple of days!
We stayed in Lemon spirit for around 2 weeks overall, the place is comfortable and they have good facilities for people to stay for several days and make it a base, filtered water, a small cooking area at the top etc. The location is amazing and it can be a sociable place without the hard core partying, though if you want to party with other hostellers you can too, but if you want a quiet night, this is also possible.
Some of the members of staff were amazingly friendly and welcoming, yet a couple were a bit cold at times.

Perfect location, 2 min walk to Ipanema beach. Very safe area. Great to meet people.
Breakfast not included in most rates. Air con doesn’t run all day.

Great location, one block from the beach. Good, comfy beds and friendly staff. Good outside bar area, excellent place to meet other travellers. They give free caiprinha with check in. Good value mondays barbecue. Good vibe
Very basic kitchen. If you're a light sleeper the noise from the bar downstairs can be a nuance

Good hostel by a really nice beach in a safe part of Rio
Location is great, safe part part of Rio. The beach is just a block away and is cleaner and I think generally far nicer than Copacabana and Ipanema - though obviously they are must-visit destinations! - and the staff were all lovely and very helpful.
The door to our room didn't lock - we were given a key and paid the deposit (got it back at the end no problem), and we did say to the staff the same day that the lock was broken and they said they would get it fixed, but this didn't happen. We locked away our most important things in lockers, but it was a little concerning that the door to our room was permanently unlocked. That said, overall this is probably one of the best hostel experiences you can have in Rio - judging by what I heard from other people staying there - so I still recommend Lemon Spirit Hostel.
